About CFHPA
The Community and Family Historical Preservation Association, Inc. (CFHPA) was established in 2015 through the dedicated efforts of community members who came together to preserve a site of deep historical significance. The property, once home to the George Washington Carver School, includes a two‑building complex with the original gymnasium still intact — a rare and powerful link to the past.
CFHPA’s work centers on the Dixie Freedom Colony, a historic African American community whose legacy is woven into the fabric of Jasper County. In recognition of the site’s cultural and historical importance, the Texas Historical Commission awarded CFHPA an official historical marker. Visitors who stop to read the marker often express awe as they learn about Dixie’s heritage, the Carver School, and the stories of resilience that shaped the community.
Today, CFHPA stewards this historic property and continues to preserve its legacy. Our larger building, The Grove, serves as a venue for weddings, receptions, quinceañeras, birthday celebrations, and CFHPA fundraising events. Our smaller building, The Carver, hosts community meetings, gatherings, our CFHPA Board Meetings, and other local programs.
CFHPA is a federally recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to protecting historic sites, uplifting community heritage, and educating future generations.

The Community and Family Historical Preservation Association, Inc.
